2 miles, 8:30 pace, Vibrams

I still have the cold, I ran 2 miles in the Vibrams this morning which went OK. I am going to try running again tomorrow, or I might just end up swimming if the run still doesn't work out. I have been looking into signing up for an Ironman next year. The only one that is accepting applications so far is Arizona, and that is on the same weekend as my 150 miler at McNaughton, so I will have to wait for something else to open up. Then I have to find I bike. It sucks, they are all so damn expensive, I just want the cheapest bike that will get me 112 miles, any suggestions??

Why don't you try something a little smaller...like a half ironman or a even a sprint triathlon? Can you just work your way into it gradually or do you always work like this; marathons and ultras before you've even run a 5k. You are something else. I was just thinking today about my upcoming triathlon. I have a clunky mountain bike that will slow me down. If there were swimming/running duathalons...I'd really be into that. You have to ride twice as long on a bike to get a good aerobic workout of run or swim. Are you running the BK 50 course this weekend?

5k? Whats a 5k??
Oh Red, I don't know how to work my way into anything gradually. I run marathons and ultras because I enjoy them. I don't run shorter races because I have no interest in them, and I don't think I would enjoy them. I think I would enjoy the Ironman experience, but I don't think I would enjoy shorter distances, so why do it? I don't know if I am overconfident but I don't think it would take more than a couple months of tri specific training for me to be ready for an Ironman. Many people like short races and would never dream of running a marathon or doing and Ironman, and that's fine with me. As long as they are out there exercising and having a good time, that's all that matter. I am just the exact opposite of those people. I'm not saying it's good or bad. That's just the way I am!
Yeah, the swim/run would be fun. I haven't been on a bike since I was a kid so I am sure that will be my worst event. As for this weekend, I am not sure where we are going to run but we plan to do back to back 50k's somewhere up that way. I better see you then!

Kim,

OK, if you say so, lol. I would do any one of them in the US. I'll just have to wait until the 2008 registrations open up and see if I can get into one.

ha...josh, you're somthing else :) I'm also looking for an inexpensive decent bike, so I'll be interested to see if anyone has any suggestions! Don't know if I'll actually do any tris, but the crosstraining of biking and swimming seems like a good thing, and fun as well.

It's the mother in me that doesn't want to see you go too overboard and get injured...just listen to your body and you'll be OK. Just sign up for that Ironman Louisville! I think you'd love that book that I mentioned in my post today. I think you and the author of that book are soul-mates.
